Conquest v. Restoration

Ever heard a church talk about how they are going to “take over?”

Ever heard a church talk about how they are going to conquer, dominate, expand, control various parts of the city?

I have.

In my opinion, the rhetoric of conquest doesn’t align with Jesus.

Jesus didn’t come yielding a sword, proposing dominant language about conquering or taking over anything.

Instead, in every situation, Jesus threw on the towel and said: How can I restore these people, this city, this situation, back to God’s original intention?

Churches, instead (and lots do, by the way) should be asking these questions:

Where can I find the beautiful ways in which God has been working behind the scenes to bring further restoration and renewal?

Where can we seek to serve, not conquer, the people in which we are called to restore?

Its not a churches job to conquer. Leave the conquering to political parties and armies.

Instead, follow the way of Jesus and seek to bring restoration and renewal to those which you serve. God doesn’t need us to conquer. He needs us to withdraw the beauty which already surrounds us. He needs us to restore.
