The Pride Monster is waiting.
She is surprisingly deceptive and possesses several disguises.
She lurks beneath your critical heart and flaunts herself in times of success.
When things go bad for others, I know I can do it better, especially if I’m on the sideline.
The family runs an impeccable social services organization, and trust them, they would never run the church the way you do.
Forget about seeking or receiving advice ~ the way it’s done is the best way it can be done.
“Look at my life! If only people lived like me they would be so much better off.”
She wrestles with your heart constantly. She wants all of it. She wants you to know ~ you alone know what to do. Lean on YOUR understanding.
Pride doesn’t even need to make you feel like the best. Really, it only needs you to feel “better than…” She lurks beneath the shadows of every success.
We must fight against pride at every turn, every morning, every action. God wants us to fight her. This is the beauty of our God who loves us so much that he knows if we’d just lay ourselves down and worship and glorify Him, all would be well.
“He loves them too much to let them be content with having self as the bottom, or deepest foundation, of their soul’s delight. God does make much of us, but he loves us more than to merely make much of us for our own sakes. It is greater love to make much of us for his sake, for his glory.
Make no mistake about it, we are precious to God—so precious that he will not have us make that preciousness into our god, but he continually reminds us to have our Savior, not ourselves, as our deepest joy. Even our glorified finite selves will not eternally satisfy, but forever will our infinitely glorious Savior make us supremely happy.” (David Mathis, Desiring God)
Whose understanding are you leaning on today? Who are you seeking to glorify today?
Want to beat the Pride Monster today? I know I do. Take this advice…
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:4-8
Bye-bye Pride Monster.
